OUR MISSION … To walk toward people, not away.
To win those who are seeking to know Christ; to build-up one another with God’s truth; to equip one another in order to live-out this truth; to multiply and grow God’s people for service – in doing all of this bringing honor and respect to the one true God in worship.
We believe that the Bible is true. It is the inspired Word of God. It is totally trustworthy and free of any mistakes. It is wholly without error as originally given of God. The Bible is really the Word of God.
We believe in the one true God. Existing eternally as three persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit – each possess all the qualities of God.
We believe man is uniquely made by God in His image. We are not perfect by any stretch and need His grace. God’s grace is free, but must be accepted personally by each one of us by faith in Jesus Christ. No amount of trying on our own can earn us God’s free gift.
We believe Jesus Christ is who He said He is. He was with God in the beginning. He became flesh and lived on Earth to dwell among mankind. Lived a sinless life. Died on a cross and rose from the dead. That selfless act made salvation possible for all who put their trust in Him. Meaning: A restored, peaceful relationship with God is possible.
Core Values
Biblical Authority: autority of the Word, patterning our lives after it
Passionate Reflection: valuing the spiritually disconnected and marginalized
Authenticity: being yourself, embracing others for who they are
Unified Services: God empowers the common to accomplish the uncommon
Coming Generations: leveraging influence to coming generations
Excellent Experiences: creating an atmosphere where people can bump into Jesus
It is the conviction of Western Reserve leadership that those who lead be those who are trustworthy, with recognizable gifts of teaching and edification, able to not only equip but also defend orthodoxy. Behavior must coincide with knowledge, and must be one above reproach.
To accomplish the above, Western Reserve has adopted the 3C’s concept. The appointment of people to leading in a ReserveGroup will reflect an honest evaluation of the 3C’s.
Character
• These reflect the spiritual descriptions of one following after the Holy Spirit.
Galatians 5:16-26 and Ephesians 4:17-5:21.
Competency
• This “C” reflects the “ability” to handle scripture accurately (able to teach), so that all interactions with people of His church will be in the context of sound Biblical theology and doctrine (1 Timothy 1:3-7; 2 Timothy 2:14-26; Titus 1:9), refuting all that is in error for the protection of Jesus’ church and its mission, and asserting the truths which we hold evident. Those who teach and their curriculum will be examined in the subject and hand prior to teaching by a Pastor to ensure protection.
Chemistry
• The ReserveGroup leaders must enjoy chemistry in relationship; respect of one another, the lead pastor’s leadership, the worship pastor’s leadership, and ownership of the church vision and core values.
• An important attribute of a ReserveGroup leader is the understanding of form vs. function.
• The function of the church is to reach people and develop disciples that enjoy the fellowship of His Word with other believers, seeking to bring glory to God in everything they do. This is a non-negotiable biblical mandate set by Christ in His Great Commission to us (Matthew 28:19-20).
• The form or strategy IS negotiable. The diversity in culture demand its leaders to be strategic in carrying out its mission (1 Corinthians 9:22). In our freedom to determine a strategy, unity in its approach must be held by ReserveGroup leaders.
• If there is a lack of respect for other leadership of Western Reserve, one should not be appointed to the ReserveGroup leadership.
• If there is not full ownership of the vision and core values of the church, one should not be appointed to ReserveGroup leadership.
Reserve Group Code
Ridiculous Risk: As Western Reserve walks toward people, not away, I will do my part in setting ridiculous goals, taking bold steps of faith, and leading well.
Honor: I agree to freely give honor and respect to those above, beside and under me because of the calling and potential God has place inside of them.
Generosity: I agree to go above and beyond to give sacrificially to the work of God in our community.
Character: I agree to live a life above reproach according to the principles of 1 Cor. 10:23-33, Romans 14, and Philippians 3:12-21. I also agree to conduct my life in a way that honors Christ and represents Western Reserve well.
Unity: I will not encourage, allow, or ignore any divisive or destructive conversations concerning the vision or leadership of Western Reserve. At the same time, I will not let divisive or destructive actions to go unaddressed.
