Mission Opportunities

Local, Domestic, and Global Missions

Western Reserve has many missions opportunities for you and your family to get involved in!

The Emergency Assistance Center

The EAC provides emergency food assistance (food pantry), personal hygiene items and clothing to residents-in-need living in 12 communities of Northern Summit County. Consider making a financial donation, donating non-expired, nonperishable food (our “Green Bag” program) or stocking shelves at the EAC in Northfield Center.

Golden Moments

Elmcroft Assisted Living in Sagamore Hills invites volunteers of all ages to engage with senior citizens who seek purpose every day, over-pouring with wisdom and experience to share. Please see their website, especially “Signature Programs,” to imagine creative activities to share with the residents. They especially love seeing children during holiday times.

Intentional Hands

jackiewendl@sbcglobal.net (email)

“Making the invisible visible,” Intentional Hands serves the homeless of downtown Cleveland in cooperation with True Freedom Ministries. New or used reading glasses (non-prescription), sunglasses, toiletries, other care packages or a financial donation are welcome. Volunteers are needed to witness to homeless men and women and offer authentic adult conversation.

International Friendship Connection

The International Friendship Connection is a local ministry with a global twist, ministering to hundreds of international students and visiting scholars at Kent State University. IFC volunteers serve these young men and women by building Christ-like relationships with them, offering practical services, improving their conversational English, extending hospitality and demonstrating Christian love and concern.

Laura’s Home

laurashome.wrgc@gmail.com (email)

Take a trip once a month to Laura’s Home in Cleveland to serve a meal to the residents. This trip typically happens on the last Sunday of each month. Keep checking our website for details on how you and your family can be involved!

Campus Life

mwolfe@campuslifecleveland.org (email)

Campus Life Ministry combines healthy relationships with creative programs to help young people make good choices, establish a solid foundation for life, and positively impact their schools. Campus Life seeks to engage these young people wherever they are found as lifelong followers of Jesus Christ. Campus Life encourages a balanced life- mentally, physically, spiritually, and socially.

Operation Barnabas

Operation Barnabas is a one-month experience for young leaders in Grades 11 and 12 to stretch their faith and consider a lifetime commitment to church ministry. Applicants must be recommended to CE National by WR’s pastors to participate in this life-changing experience. OB participants travel through the summer as part of a regional group learning hands-on ministry skills, giving testimonies, preparing lessons and building team relationships.

Urban Hope – Philadelphia, PA

Urban Hope, a ministry of CE National, trains believers in cross-cultural urban ministry. One-week or weekend experiences can be designed to include an array of activities such as ministry in ethnic communities, homeless shelters and soup kitchens around Philadelphia.

Louisiana Flood Relief

WR GO teams are responding to the devastating flood damage to some 40,000 homes in Denham Springs, Louisiana. In partnership with ReachGlobal, our teams join workers from throughout the country in the widespread clean-up, restoration and reconstruction activities. Even more importantly, we bring encouragement to many distraught families in need of hope, prayer and reassurance of God’s unfailing love.

VisionOhio and Vision USA

visionohio.org graceconnect.us/new-national-church-planting-ministry

Ron and Chery Boehm are senior coaches and leaders for VisionOhio, a Grace Brethren regional church planting network. Please pray for the Boehms, the church planting movement in Ohio and the work of SEEDnet in inner city Cleveland. Vision USA, born from VisionOhio, is helping many other regions in the United States to mobilize a regional church planting effort.

BrightStart Learning

BrightStart Learning offers 1 to 12-month internships in Battambang, Cambodia and its outskirt villages in cooperation with Encompass World Partners. Interns help the BrightStart staff provide remedial learning and English instruction to children, pre-K through Grade 12. During Sunday school lessons, interns transition from instructors to disciples by coaching a growing number of children to seek Jesus and His Gospel of hope, joy, unity and personal relationship.

Please pray for the health and God’s protection of John DeWit and his family, leading BrightStart’s operations in Battambang.

Encompass World Partners

Encompass equips and mobilizes individuals and churches throughout the world to fulfill their roles in the Great Commission. As global facilitator for the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches, Encompass will assist WR to place a young adult in an internship opportunity to match their calling into international cross-cultural ministry.

WR sponsors Encompass missionaries Matt and Jen Daniels, who arrived in Japan in September 2016. They have made a long-term commitment to evangelism and discipleship ministries in a country where fewer than one percent of the population claims to be Christian. Matt and Jen need your prayers and friendship as they begin this journey. (You can start today by “friending” them on Facebook!)

Grace Church, Bath Campus

WR participants can join our friends at Grace Church, Bath Campus on their one to two-week mission trips to Haiti, Mexico City and Mazatlan, Mexico. These GO Teams travel to other cultures to engage communities, building relationships through hands-on ministry and partnerships with local churches.

Lastleaf creates mission opportunities for individuals and families to impact their world as they discover and grow in Christ through each changing season of life. WR’s Mobilization Team can connect you with a multi-church team led by Lastleaf to locations such as Peru, Nicaragua, Trinidad and Northern Ireland. Lastleaf teams are immersed in a foreign culture and help the local Christian ministries though many activities such as evangelism, orphan care, feeding centers, city outreach and VBS. The mission trips are generally 7 to 10 days in length.

Not Alone Responders

Not Alone Responders – compassion in action – is the crisis response network of Encompass World Partners. Responders are sought to serve in the wake of world disasters by praying or giving or even going. Some serve in all three of these ways. The Not Alone Responders’ database is the starting point for connection but there is not an obligation to deploy to a disaster site.
